Urgent: Keeshond mix needs rescue

February 3rd, 2010

From Keesmom’s blog:

I am writing to say that there appears to be an elderly Keeshond mix being held at the high-kill Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Center. ‘MADACC’ does not have an adoption process and euthanizes the majority of its animals after their stray hold, the only dogs that get out are the ones that rescues are able to take. Because of this, I am hoping that someone in keeshond rescue will be able to help this girl! She has been there since the 25th of January so her time is VERY limited!

The shelter is calling her a “sheltie mix” but she looks more Keesie to me than anything else! Her ID# at the shelter is A202216. I sure hope you will be able to help this girl!
Thank you

Get well soon Leo!

January 26th, 2010

p1040668

Leo (our cousin from Japan) had a dental extraction ubder general anesthesia. He was tired and sleeping all day. The Vet must have heard a murmur at some point because an echo was done and aortic insufficiency was diagnosed. Let’s all wish Leo a speedy recovery from the tooth extraction and that the aortic valeve problem turns out to be insignificant.

Leo is one of Keesmom’s 2 Keeshonds. Jade is the other one. A link to her website is in the right margin of this blog. Her site is always worth reading.

If you adopt me as your dog, remember:

January 23rd, 2010

1. My life is likely to last ten to fifteen years. Any separation from you will be painful for me.
Remember that before you adopt me.

2. Give me time to understand what you want of me.

3. Place your trust in me…it’s crucial to my well- being.

4. Don’t be angry to me for long and don’t lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your entertainment and your friends. I have only you.

5. Talk to me sometimes. Even though I don’t know your words, I do understand your voice when its speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I’ll never forget it.

7 Remember before you hit me that I have teeth that could easily crush the bones of your hand but I choose not to bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being uncooperative, obstinate or lazy, ask yourself if something might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not getting the right food, or I’ve been out in the sun too long, or my heart is getting old and weak.

9. Take care of me when I get old; you ,too, will grow old.

10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never say you can’t bear to watch it or let it happen in my absence. Everything is easier for me if you are there. Remember — I love you.

Give or take a million

January 8th, 2010

I saw this on the local news and thought it was very funny. A couple won a lottery of about $160 million (alone). The county they live in was going to block the prize until the couple paid the county $1 million for something like stealing money from a charity (homeless shelter, I think). The news shot showed the couple yelling and screaming “Liars, liars, we never did anything wrong and we will not pay the 1 million. We will fight this!”

OK this is just me. But if I won $80 million (after taxes), I am now so rich that I don’t care that Uncle Sam just took away $80 million in taxes. I also don’t care if some stupid county wants another million of it. I still have $79 million! Yes, to clear my name, I would still fight it, but only after getting my hands on the $79 million. On second thought,I would probably be so happy that, I really woudn’t care to much about my “good name” anymore.

A Puppy Needs Your Help

January 5th, 2010

kallan3

Kallan is an amazing 8-month-old puppy. He loves to be rocked; he loves to cuddle; he likes to give kisses; he loves his toys; he loves to play with other dogs; he loves to chase cats, but only to play. LOL Kallan was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Louisiana by some most wonderful folks who believed in him. I agreed to foster him here. This shelter is very hard on dogs, but Kallan came out strong. So, he got his new name. Kallan is Scottish for Strong. Kallan deserves a loving home with lots of attention. Older children will enjoy Kallan’s desire to run and play, as will dogs who like wrestle and play. Kallan is neutered and has received all of his vaccinations and veterinary care. He weighs 30 lbs.; he is on heartworm preventive and flea/tick preventive. Kallan has very noticeable Keeshond traits, and some Aussie traits, too. He does sometimes like to round up his toys. He will need some obedience training, but he listens closely and does his best to follow commands. He is housetrained and knows to sit for his treats, which he loves very much (as most any Keeshond will tell you). Kallan is a very good watch dog, always alerting with a bark if someone or something is around the house. He does not bark for no reason, so you can trust that his bark means something. LOL Kallan is very active, as are most puppies, so he will need daily exercise–a fenced yard would be ideal, but not an absolute necessity. He is crate-trained, which is very helpful at this age!

I require adoption references and a home visit. Kallan’s adoption fee is $100, which is a bargain at today’s veterinary prices! He comes with food, toys and preventives. So, if you or someone you know would like to give a sweet, loving little Kees/Aussie a chance, please contact Dee at deewingfield@gmail.com or 727-534-9002.

Some thoughts for the new year

December 24th, 2009

I can not tell you how many pets are currently up for adoption or how many of them will be euthanized. I can tell you that there are millions. I can also tell you that at least one of them is as deserving as were the dogs and cats I adopted over the years (Major, Scruffy, Ruby, Charlie, The Kitty, Narla, Sir Prize, Skat, and Chicken). Please go out and find that one deserving pet and bring her home with you. And then, why not make a commitment to make that pet the happiest pet in the world? It just might make you the happiest person in the world.

A most beautiful cat

This is our cat, Chicken (see ‘New Dog on the Block’ a few pages before this one). In fact, if you have nothing better to do, keep hitting ‘older entries’ and start reading the blog at the beginning. Its not all that long and its really the sequel to Scruffy the Legend. Its like getting a book by a world-famous author (me) for free.
