Charlie has pancreatits

November 4th, 2009

Just to be on the safe side we had blood test for pancreatitis done at the vet (see prev post).  The vet did not expect to find anything because Charlie didi not appear very ill.  Turns out that the lipase and amylase are both elevated (unfortunately I wasn’t fiven the exact numbers).  I assume thay they were somewhat elevated but not in the thousands.  In other words, based on the fact that Charlie acts and appears perfectly normal (other than GI symptoms), I think he has a mild case probably because we fed him french fries or because he ate something fatty that we do not know about.  Some dogs don’t tolerate fatty foods and can develop pancreatitis.  We have withheld food for one day and will begin giving him a special diet.  No more human food for this Prince Charles (or for Queen Ruby either).

Charlie not feeling well

November 4th, 2009

Charlie began having watery diarrhea and vomiting yesterday.  Today he could not keep anything down.  We took him to the vet.  The vet doubts there is anything serious going on and we will not feed him today and continue to observe him tomorrow.  One half of my brain is very worried about him because of the symptoms.  The other half notices that he still bolts from the door at lightening speed with toy barbell in mouth, barking all the while to chase away any rabbits that might be on the other side of the fence.  I guess he is a little slower than usual, but still a blur as he runs.  I’ll keep you posted.
